File Attachments

What are file attachments?
File attachments let you include a document in a single conversation. The assistant reads the file alongside the theological library when formulating its response — useful for getting feedback on a manuscript, analyzing a document, or asking questions about content you've written.
File attachments are per-conversation and temporary. If you need a document to be available across many conversations, use Projects instead.
How to attach a file
There are two ways to attach a file to a message:
- Paperclip icon — Click the paperclip icon in the chat input area and select a file from your device.
- Drag and drop — Drag a file directly into the chat window and drop it onto the input area.
Once attached, the file appears as a chip above the message input. You can remove it by clicking the X on the chip before sending.
Supported file types
Theostack supports the following file types for attachments:
- PDF (.pdf) — Scanned or text-based PDFs. Text is extracted automatically.
- Word documents (.docx) — Microsoft Word files.
- Plain text (.txt) — Simple text files.
- Markdown (.md) — Markdown formatted text.
Scanned PDFs with no embedded text layer may produce poor results. For best quality, use PDFs with actual text (not images of text).
Common uses
- Sermon feedback — Paste or upload a manuscript to the Sermon Feedback or Sermon Summary assistant.
- Document analysis — Upload a theological paper, commentary excerpt, or church document and ask questions about it.
- Manuscript review — Share a draft and ask for theological accuracy, structural feedback, or additional reading suggestions.
Attachments vs. Projects
File attachments and Projects serve different purposes:
| | File Attachments | Projects | |---|---|---| | Scope | One conversation | Persistent across many conversations | | Setup | Instant | Create a project, upload files | | Best for | One-off feedback on a document | Ongoing research (sermon series, Bible study) | | Storage limit | No separate limit | Counts toward plan storage |
Use attachments when you have a one-time question about a document. Use Projects when you're doing sustained research and want the document available in every conversation.
Available on all plans
File attachments are included on all Theostack plans — Core, Premium, and Church. Attached files do not count against your project storage quota.
